Do you Want to Improve your CV?

This website provides comprehensive and practical help and advice to help you improve your CV. It also provides sample CVs to download which can be edited to fit your own situation, or used as guidance.

The approach taken is to help you include in your CV all the information that employers want to know whilst  excluding information that the employer is not interested in and which will make him reject your CV before he finishes reading it.

A busy employer may be faced with  three hundred CVs to assess. Many will be far too long and written in a generalised 'CV language' which attempts to give a positive impression of the candidate without giving the employer the specific information he wants. The useful information the CVs do contain may be buried in the depths of the documents, requiring lengthy examination - i.e., at least ten seconds - before it can be extracted. Small wonder that the employer gets bored after the first few CVs and barely glances at the rest!

For your CV to get noticed it should be concise, accurate and factual. The CV should avoid meaningless CV cliches, exaggeration and irrelevant information, but should clearly explain the valuable  skills and experience you would bring to the job.

If you follow the advice on this website your CV will rapidly tell your potential employer exactly what he is being offered. He will be impressed by your clarity of communication and will put you at the top of his 'probables pile'.

Via the links on the left you will find advice on the layout of your CV, guidance on how to write particular sections, what to include and what to avoid, and the right  style and language to use. Particular problems areas and how to get around them are also discussed.

All the sections of the website are written with lots of practical examples, but also included are a number of sample CVs which illustrate the contents of good CVs and which can be downloaded free and edited to fit your own needs. These may be particularly useful for users who do not speak English as their native language but are seeking jobs in English speaking countries, so fictional examples for the sample CVs are drawn from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and other countries.
